Miracle Fruit Synsepalum dulcificum SAPOTACEAE

The miracle fruit or miracle berry is a small evergreen shrub with small leaves and tiny clusters of white flowers. It grows slowly to 6 to 10 feet tall. It can be grown very easily as a container plant. It thrives in full sun.

The small (about 3/4-inch long) red fruit is very sweet, with a large brown seed. The miracle is that most acidic things you eat will taste sweet for an hour or so after eating a miracle fruit. You can eat a lemon after eating a miracle fruit and it will taste like lemonade.

Miracle fruit takes no special care; just water and fertilize regularly. They will bloom and set fruit several times a year after about two to three years of age, though only 12 to 18 inches tall.
