The abundant fruit of this fantastic tree is about one inch long, dark purple when ripe, sweet and tasty. The tree can be allowed to grow as a tree or kept pruned as a bush. The Mulberry will fruit more often and is easier to harvest if kept as a bush. Mulberry leaves are the prime source of food for the silkworm caterpillar. The trees thrive in most locations here and respond to balanced fertilization. They are vigorous growers and produce fruit right away and several times a year. Mulberry is also thornless. The fruit freezes well for storage and can be used in any way other berries can be prepared: as a topping, pie, jellies, jams, or in baked goods. | |||
